Custom Measurement Probe
PROJECT TYPE: Prototype through development
A long time customer of AKI, located in Thailand, had been utilizing a part handling system for several years and wanted to save as much money as possible. With new materials being measured and a small space to measure from, the customer was having difficulty meeting GRR targets for measurement. We designed a custom measurement probe to fit their system and meet their new (and future) measurement specifications. This project involved finding the right optical design to balance resolution and range, get a very small collimated laser spot, and achieve a nice bright return signal.
Because of our long term relationship with this customer, we chose to develop the first prototype with no cost to them. We wanted to prove that it worked very well before they had to completely commit time and money to the project.
The project was a great success, as our customer met their measurement goals and we sold several hundred probes to them and still service those in the field, many years later.
